Computer-Based Training for Rigging Crews

This courseware is a reference of equipment and techniques for rigging crews. Click on any of the screens below to display a full scale view.

The metaphor for the training is a digital handbook, where the user flips through tabs to move to different sections of the content. The notebook opens when the user logs in; the user closes the notebook to end the session.

The software was field tested on a laptop, and installed as a CBT unit on the network of the J.W. Dye Training Center in Hauppauge. Technology transfer on this project called for a week long workshop for 15 employees of LILCO's training center in CBT development.

The program has 25 modules (over 200 screens), and an additional 6 reference sections. Special features include an interactive test which records current and cumulative user scores, a document viewer for searching and displaying system diagrams, a graphing calculator and a print function. The main menu is accessed through a login that records user data and files it by employee number.

The software interface uses custom cursors to launch tutorials and functions. The program contains 27 digital videos, 31 3D animations, 38 pages of reference material with 17 system diagrams, 14 original MIDI compositions, and over 250 graphics. The software runs on both PC and Mac platforms. Approximate training time is eight hours. 480 hours were spent on development.
